Police Arrest Homeless Woman in Connection With Santa Monica Fatal Shooting

SANTA MONICA – A 27-year-old transient woman was taken into custody Friday following the fatal shooting of a man in a Santa Monica residential neighborhood.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, detectives arrested Kayla Denise Mackay Friday morning in West Los Angeles after witnesses assisted with providing officers with her general direction of travel.

Police said the shooting was reported around 10:25 a.m. Thursday in the 2600 block of 29th Street, near Ocean Park Boulevard.

The victim, 46-year-old Edward Williams III, of Los Angeles, was transported to a hospital, where he later died after sustaining a gunshot wound while sitting in his parked vehicle with visible bullet holes.

Detectives were continuing an ongoing investigation into the shooting to determine the motive leading up to the crime.
